Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) is Portugal’s busiest airport, around 7 km from the city centre. A smooth arrival depends on a few simple steps.
1. Passport control
Non-EU travellers go through border control, and queues can be long at peak times, especially when several long-haul flights arrive together. Have your passport and any travel documents ready. Border procedures can change, so check the latest requirements for your nationality before you travel.
2. Baggage claim
After passport control, check the screens for your flight’s belt. Trolleys are available. If a bag is missing, report it to your airline’s desk before leaving the hall.
3. Customs and the exit
Most travellers walk through the green channel. The arrivals hall has ATMs, SIM card shops and information desks.
4. Getting to the city
- Metro: the Red line station is connected to the terminal.
- Taxi: the rank is just outside arrivals.
- Ride-hailing: follow the signs to the pick-up area.
- Private transfer: your driver waits at arrivals. Details in our comparison of taxi, Uber and private transfers.
Tips
- Get some euros or use a card; contactless payment is widely accepted.
- Keep your hotel address and a contact number handy.
- If you booked a private driver, share your flight number so they can follow delays.
- Arriving with children? Ask for child seats in advance.
If a long queue worries you, a private driver who tracks your flight and waits at arrivals removes one source of stress. Request a quote.
